More about the Station

THE STATION - want to know more?

The Station, Bristol opens on 19th October 2012 and promises to be one of the most exciting new youth venues in the UK. Transforming a Grade II listed Fire Station into a major youth hub, Creative Youth Network is the lead partner, working with many other partners from Bristol and beyond. Organisations include Brook, Bristol City Council, Off the Record Counselling Service, Young Bristol, Basement Studio and Bristol YMCA.

Every step of the build and design is being consulted with by a team of young people called the Station Drivers.  Combining high quality arts with youth services, this multi million pound myplace project will offer young people of all ages and backgrounds a space to develop and create their own artistic work, find support with health and careers or just hang out with friends.

The facilities include a 600 capacity main performing space for productions, gigs and events. A music department including a recording studio, vocal booth, practice rooms, media suite and radio station with facilities to record live sessions from the performance spaces. There will be a dance studio with sprung floors, bars and PA system. And for those who want to relax there will be a chill out space as well as a public cafe, The Kitchen, run by the YMCA who will train young people on the job.

This summer, there are projects and activities happening across Bristol to promote the building and raise the profile of the project with youth groups and organisations. Artistic partners who will work with us include Art Action for Kids, Watershed, Bristol Old Vic, Travelling Light, Royal Photographic Society, Knowle West Media Centre, WOMAD, MShed and Aardman. We will also be producing our own performances through Urban Arts Space.

Once opened, The Station promises to offer young people support on all levels. There will be alternative education provision delivered during term times as well as apprenticeships and career development opportunities. Facilities will be open to all and a percentage of all sessions will be free.
