Harez first came to The Station as a young person when he arrived in Bristol from Iraq. Here he found community, a place to belong and support in his day to day life. He is now helping young people who are new to the city, often nervous and need reassuring.

Harez is using his skills to give back to the community which welcomed him with open arms. He is now volunteering on Welcome Wednesdays, offering free hair cuts to young people. It's often the case that young people either can't afford a haircut or don't know where to go when they're new to the city. Harez is always friendly, gives advice and shares his own experience of going through the asylum process, providing comfort to other young people.

Harez has recently got his status from the home office with help from the Refugee Council who offer a drop in service in the youth club.

We're grateful for his amazing support to young people and very happy to see his commitment recognised by Bristol City Council - Harez received an award for his voluntary work, inspiring and supporting young people through his lived experience.

Thank you so much! It just makes me want to do what I do more! - said Harez when he was recognised for his contribution

Can you help young asylum seekers and refugees get the support they need to fulfill their potential?

In our Welcome Wednesday group for young asylum seekers and refugees, we provide a safe space where young people who often come to the UK unaccompanied can find community, trusting youth workers and great advice. We work with the Refugee Council to offer advice on asylum claims and we are partners with Art Refuge UK who provide art therapy for those who need it.

When young people are given support, they often pay it forward, giving back to the community which has enabled them to thrive.

Join us now and enable young people such as Harez to reach their potential.
