Where is loneliness? How do you deal with it? Do you lose yourself to it or do you stand your ground?

Directed and choreographed by Deepraj Singh. Brought to life by young people in Bristol.

Our endeavour to belong is one that so many of us can relate to. The feeling of being accepted by others is something we crave and has become integral to our survival. However, far too often we feel alone in our journey to fit in, whether we’re surrounded by people or not.

Rooted is a contemporary dance theatre production packed with emotive imagery and rich textured movement, bringing together unheard stories from those living in isolation.

Performed by passionate young dancers using visceral group choreography, it examines what it means to feel alone.

25th - 27th July, 7pm

The Station, Silver Street, BS1 2AG

Pay what you can: £1 - £20

Commissioned by Creative Youth Network, Rooted is directed and choreographed by emerging artist Deepraj Singh. Since graduating from London Contemporary Dance School in 2015, Deepraj has choreographed, taught, and performed in and around Bristol, as well as toured internationally with Akademi’s 'The Troth' (choreographed by Gary Clarke).

This commissioned piece explores the duality of isolation and assimilation through contemporary dance theatre. The loneliness that can emerge when confronted by something new and can even reach you within your community.

Working with Deepraj was a pure joy. His energy and enthusiasm was infectious. He was a great team player and created some truly brilliant work. He clearly has a growing passion for movement and dance and this shines brightly through the work he created. A caring, generous and driven individual who would be an asset to any company or production - Dance Artist and Choreographer Gary Clarke
