Name: Kitty Reeves-Short
Age: 20
Art form: Visual Arts

What made you apply for creative futures?

I applied because I knew it would be the perfect opportunity to enhance my confidence, skills and knowledge in the creative industry and encourage me to develop myself professionally with the provided recourses and start a project I’m passionate about!

Tell us about the work you are currently making?

I am currently looking into dyslexia, and I want to create a series of visual art forms around dyslexia and storytelling. The series will be around the personality of dyslexia and what it’s like through the eyes of a dyslexic.

What topics would you like to explore and why?

I would like to look into the current approach around dyslexia within the education system and provide young people with creative workshops and materials around their dyslexia. As a dyslexic myself it’s something I am really passionate about exploring and feel there is a lack of support and creative alternatives to learning in the current mainstream education system.

What are you most excited to do on creative futures?

I am most excited about getting professional mentoring and support around my art form. It will be a great chance to develop myself professionally and produce a high standard of work I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to.

Where do you see yourself at the end of the programme?

Hopefully doing some campaigning around this idea of dyslexia within the education system and just the education system as a whole! And obviously, carrying on with my art work with my new found skills and contacts to continue into the creative industry.
