What made you apply for creative futures?

I applied for Creative Futures because it came to a point where I became more confident in my abilities as a performance poet and storyteller, but didn't quite have the networks, money or business knowledge to make real progress. The Creative Futures programme offered me these things and I basically said 'yes please!'. As well as this, the values of Creative Youth Network align with my own, a key one being mentoring and equipping the youth. The Creative Futures programme provides opportunities for me to impact other young people in a creative way. 

Tell us about the work you are currently making?

I'm working on fusing live storytelling and performance poetry with video. I want to learn how to develop a symbiotic relationship with my audience in that the interaction goes both ways. 

What topics would you like to explore and why?

I would like to look at homelessness and explore the home as a concept more broadly. I think in some ways we are at a very unique point culturally. With the expansion of social media usage, migration and the dispersion of diasporas, I think there's a lot of fragmentation and feelings of being displaced. 

What are you most excited to do on creative futures?

Sounds strange, but I'm really looking forward to the messiness of making good art! Although the process can be stressful, it's so satisfying to see something excellent come out from disorder and vague ideas.

Where do you see yourself at the end of the programme?

I see myself as having matured as an artist and built the foundations that will matter 10 to 20 years from now. I see myself developing in character and reaching my audiences better.
