Hi I’m Scarlett! I am a fine art Graduate of UWE, Bristol, I most recently worked as a Production Secretary on a Blue chip natural history TV documentary.

I’m super excited to have started at Creative Youth Network as a Trainee Creative Producer, on the Creative Workforce for The Future project. I'll be working alongside Creative Futures young artists and I can't wait to learn lots about producing and Bristol's creative industries.

Name: Scarlett Smyth

Age: 24

Role: Creative Producing, I've also got experience in poetry/storytelling/collage

Why did you apply for Creative Workforce for the Future?

I applied for Creative Workforce for the Future to expand my knowledge within exhibition programming and to work creatively whilst organising! I’ve also heard so much about Creative Youth Network and what they are doing for young people and really wanted to get involved.

Tell us a bit about your work.

My most recent Project is Paradise Island, a sound sculpture I wrote and directed for BBC New Creatives, this piece is a poetic collaboration between myself and my late granddad John Richard Doughty, collaged around organically fragmented recordings, from his 80s pearl cassette recorder.

I’m currently looking to publish the poetry book Paradise Island is based on.

What would you like to explore within creative producing and why?

I am really excited to learn new ways of doing things, especially programming exhibitions and asking questions in a supportive environment.

I can’t wait to learn the ins and outs of producing, and witnessing the artists' work and ideas flourish, I’m looking forward to working with the artists on their creative journeys.

Where do you see yourself at the end of the programme?

Hopefully feeling a lot more confident about who I am, with a larger network of creatives, working in a creative, supportive environment.
