Welcome Wednesday is a wonderful space for people who are relatively new to the UK and our city to connect with others, as well as our youth team – it’s been so popular that we’ve now extended it to an extra session on a Thursday too!

What do the sessions offer?

If you're a young refugee or asylum-seeker living in Bristol, come along to this regular drop-in session at The Station.

Meet new people in the city, improve your English, and get some extra support in a safe environment.

Share your story, get your voice heard and have fun – Our youth club has table tennis, football table, Playstation, Pool table, and we provide some free food

When young people face such complex challenges, youth work can enable them to build relationships and connect with others. This provides them with a lifeline in a new and unfamiliar country.

How do I book my place on a session?

At the moment, we've had to implement a pre-booking system, as spaces are limited to 35 young people a session

As part of Welcome Wednesday, we’ve developed a Young Leaders Group and a Migrant Young Women’s provision to offer additional opportunities and empower the young people we support.

Young Leaders' Participation Project

In partnership with Bristol Refugee Rights, we have developed a participation project for 13-25 year olds, to support and empower our members and others with lived experience of the asylum process, and/or unsettled immigration status, to speak out about their experiences and to be a voice for change in Bristol.

A Dedicated Space for Young Women

Welcome Wednesday members are predominately male unaccompanied youths (not all, but most). The perilous journeys young people face to Europe means few young women make this journey. However, with a small group of young women coming along to sessions,  we’ve taken steps to develop the provision for young women within our Welcome Thursday sessions (for both accompanied and unaccompanied migrant young women) bringing together young women from Pakistan, Sudan, Eritrea, Syria and Hungary together and providing them with a dedicated space and youth worker, with the option to mix or have their own space.

You can read more about the ways we’re supporting young refugees and asylum seekers over on our blog.

What young people think

Coming to Welcome Wednesdays has meant that I can talk to people more easily now. I’m less shy and more confident. Amara

Being here helped me meet new people. We play games and have fun and I get to practice speaking English while socialising with others. Kayan

This gets me doing lots of different things, helps me explore my interests. For example, we tried yoga for the first time today and I’m looking to get involved in photography. We also go on trips in and out of Bristol, which is fun.

This helps me meet new people, we have parties and everyone is really friendly; there’s a real sense of community, it’s a nice place to come to.  I also get support with CV stuff and practicing my English. Sammy
