About MathildaMathilda - A new show for young people and their families

Critically acclaimed theatre makers Soap Soup Theatre present their most ambitious offering yet: A visual theatre, puppetry and jazz extravaganza for young people & adults. A show for anyone who’s ever wanted to fit in, but had no idea how…

On the bleak coastline of a faded Victorian Seaside town, a paper heart is caught in the wind. It flutters from the fingers of a little girl who has been practising writing her name on it: MathildaMathilda.

A breeze blows and the heart lifts....

On the hill, Nelly’s works in her artist’s studio. She is a twin who is missing her sister.

Nelly's childhood doll sits in a bag, forgotten, with only a head from a second broken doll for company. The paper heart twists through Nelly's open window and settles on the doll's breast. MathildaMathilda opens her four brown eyes, rolls them around and starts… she is alive and ready for adventure!

Fly to New York on the back of the wind, meet the Queen of Corny-Eye-Land, and dance to the tune of Smells and Bells exploding rainbow paint. All wrapped up in a host of unforgettable characters, original jazz numbers and puppetry that will transport you to another world.

The world of MathildaMathilda.

Suitable for age 11 and up
