Dramatherapy Referrals What is Dramatherapy? Dramatherapy is a unique method of psychotherapy that uses play, movement, improvisation, storytelling and dramatisation to facilitate positive change and personal growth. Dramatherapy helps develop creativity and imagination and aids during times of stress, emotional instability, and uncertainty. Dramatherapy is an inclusive practice suitable for a wide range of client groups across ages, cultural or social differences, including physical and learning ability. Dramatherapy is a contained, active, collaborative process of discovery and change whereby the therapist supports clients by actively listening and responding with creative invitations. Dramatherapists work with creative activities, embodied experiences, and theatre practices to help their clients re-imagine, work through and make changes in their lives. More info Who is it for? · Referrals are open for 11 - 25 year olds from Bristol and South Gloucestershire. · Referrals can be made by young persons, parents/carers, other professionals, and school teachers. · Those being referred do not need previous experience or interest in drama as a subject. · The sessions are confidential, non-judgemental, and tailored to diverse needs. What to expect? Creative Youth Network's Trainee Dramatherapist will work with the referred young person for 12 sessions on a 1-2-1 basis. Sessions will last for an hour each and take place at The Station (Bristol) or Kingswood Estate (South Gloucestershire). Who can benefit from Dramatherapy? Anyone navigating the intricacies of being a human. Dramatherapy could help develop self-confidence, find one’s voice or build emotional resilience. It can offer support during specific life challenges such as difficulties at school, relationship conflict, or bereavement. Dramatherapy has a wide range of applications, and it is suitable for everyone but could be particularly beneficial to those who perhaps find it somewhat difficult to talk about their challenges but are keen to find a way to work through them. Does a young person need experience or a pre-existing interest in drama? It is not necessary to have any experience in theatre or acting to benefit from Dramatherapy. The session will be tailored to individual needs and interests and will consist of a warm-up, focused activity and closure/reflection. Dramatherapist will support the therapeutic process by offering various techniques such as games, improvisation, creative movement, puppetry, and storytelling. The sessions will focus on the techniques that are most beneficial to each individual's therapeutic journey. How do I refer a young person? Refer a young person Who will a young person be working with? A young person will work with a Dramatherapy Trainee from Derby University. The trainee is registered with the British Association of Dramatherapists and will work in compliance with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) standards of conduct, performance and ethics, and the Professional Competency and Professional Suitability Policy (PCPS).
