Why did you apply for creative futures?

I applied for Creative Futures as I think it’s rare to find an opportunity where you are paid to be creative.  I wanted to develop an artform I’m passionate about but have less experience in (photography and filmmaking). I saw it as a chance to learn about my and other’s artforms in a group of creative people.

Tell us about the work you are currently making

I recently did a photography commission with Rife on the theme of multiculturalism which led me to discover I wanted to explore this more. I took photos of 10 different young people and talked to them about their lives and growing up with multicultural backgrounds in Bristol which made me want to continue this work and focus more on the conversations.

What topics would you like to explore and why?

I would like to explore multiculturalism and identity within young people in Bristol. It’s such a broad topic so I think it’s a big task to take on but I know that Bristol is so diverse and there are so many young people with stories to share. I also think it’s easy to talk to someone who you can relate to or find things in common with and I’ve found this with previous conversations about people’s backgrounds and upbringing.

Where do you see yourself at the end of the programme?

I see myself having definitely learnt a lot not only from my personal project and freelance work but also from the others in my group as we all do such different artforms. I know that I’ll be proud of what I’ve accomplished and what I’ve learnt.
