I’m Joe Topping. I like long walks on the beach, pina coladas, and getting caught in the rain. I’m an actor, writer and theatre maker. I studied acting at Bath Spa University and formed the theatre company Dumb Found Theatre with my two best friends. We’ve devised and performed two comedy shows and now I’ve joined Creative Futures to get away from them.

Name: Joe

Age: 24

Artform: Writer, Actor.

Why did you apply for creative futures?

I wanted to work with a great Bristol organisation that can help me develop my writing skills and connect with other creatives. The mentorship, support and education in how to work as a freelance artist will be hugely beneficial.

Tell us about the work you’re currently creating

I am currently writing short comedic plays and sketches with the aim of eventually recording them and creating an audio comedy show.

What topics would you like to explore and why?

I think after the past 18 months, people are up for a laugh. That’s what I want to do with my work, to make people smile and entertain. Sometimes I write sketches with a deeper message, sometimes I just write about toilet jokes, sometimes I write toilet jokes with a deeper message - it really depends on the day.

Where do you see yourself at the end of the programme?

Hopefully with the skills and a portfolio of work to continue as an early stage freelance artist.
