Creative YOU

Creativity is everywhere. Opportunity is not.

We are part of the solution. The secret is in our name. Every year Creative Youth Network gives thousands of young people a taste and thirst for the arts and culture and the joy, life-skills and opportunity they bring.

But we want more.

Creative YOU is our campaign showcasing how we, you and the engaged, emerging and amazing young creatives we support, come together.

We want to reveal how, together, we are ambition, quality, cultural democracy and social mobility in action.

Every young person deserves the right to access creativity and development opportunities in the creative and cultural industries.

It all starts with education.

If all young people have access to creative subjects in school, then talented young people from all backgrounds can pursue their passion, develop crucial skills needed in so many industries and improve their wellbeing.

1. Pledge

Add your name and join the many people passionate about bringing creativity back into our schools.

With all the pledges we’ll be reaching out to headteachers in Bristol and the South West. We hope this will encourage local academies to give more space to creativity in their curriculum.

Bristol, being the creative city we know and love, can pave the way for other regions to do the same, showcasing the true value of creativity.

How did our young people help transform a disused space at our Hanham Youth Club into a calming retreat to support their wellbeing?

🎥 Watch the video...

In this video, some of our young people alongside Youth Work Manager Jack Fitzsimmons, explain the consultation and design process plus the impact the room has had.

Hanham in the South Gloucestershire is at the centre of the community – with  a large main space, a sports hall, outside space, and kitchen, it attracts high numbers of local young people across four nights of the week.

There is one small room at the centre which had many uses over time and had slowly collected a selection of random items and mismatched artwork across the walls. Following the pandemic, it had become disused but when the club returned, they had a vision! They consulted with young people about what they wanted to see in their youth club and the overwhelming response was for a quiet place, separate from the larger and livelier areas.

We wanted a space were everyone can just chill out.

The revamping of this space was done by collaborating with a local artist, with input from the Hanham young people from all age groups, to come up with an inclusive and fun design for the room!

The young people involved in this project gained a South Gloucestershire Youth Award in recognition our their achievement.

It’s now somewhere that young people can express their feelings.

Our ideas helped design the room. All our ideas were put together – we wanted a nature theme so now it’s more like a nature room.

Would you like to see the transformation for yourself? If you're 11-19 then you can come down to one of our weekly sessions – check out the session details below.
