Creative Youth Network are holding an open call for photographers aged 11 – 25 who have photographic work that is a form of activism.

The work will form a month long exhibition at Creative Youth Network’s venue, The Station Silver Street, BS1 2AG, Bristol. 

About the exhibition

Activism, protest, and representation are all foundations of democracy. This exhibition plans on sharing artwork created by young people who use photography as activism. Whilst the views of the photographers will be their own, Creative Youth Network are interested in providing a space to showcasing artwork that has social relevance and is a form of activism

This exhibit uses lens of the artists to show protest through an unbiased observational standpoint. The aim is to show that the people of Bristol standing up for what is right and what they believe in.

This call is open for artists between the ages of 11-25 as Creative Youth Network is all about helping Bristol’s young community and giving the most vulnerable among us a creative voice.

We ask you to give your voice and your eyes through the lens. How has your photography capturing activism? Do you use it as a form of activism itself? What do protests and events of activism that happen in our city mean to you? What do you have to say about them from your perspective and what do you think it means for your future?

Creative Youth Network are looking to exhibition the work of young Photographers who have archive or recent content covering progressive protests and events that have occurred in the past few years. The aim is to have 3-4 different sections within the umbrella term of activism, using images of events and protests, stories of individuals, bios and commentaries of the experiences of the photographers and their subjects.

Details of how to display the work

  • Photographs should be printed by the artist and suitable to exhibit
  • If framed, the frames should have D hooks on the back so that they can be hung – the artist should ensure they have these.
  • Size of prints should be no smaller than 6 x 4 photographs.

Exhibition dates for your diary

  • If your work is selected for the exhibition, you must bring it to The Station for the 12th July 2022
  • Exhibition open event – 14th July
  • Exhibition open to the public – 15th July – 6th August
  • You must collect your work from The Station on Monday 8th August
